Francois Delsarte (b.1811) saw that movements involves a "semiotics" - a sign system that can be "read" by observers. He recognised that the physical "signs" come from various sources - some gestures are ours alone and express our individuality.


In 'Singapura' my works explores the idea of Identity by re-performing Singapore's National Day Message. The figure deals with the performative hand gestures. This performance is accompanied with landscapes and scenes of Singapore of the past and present that reflects on the message of the speech.
